Initial Consultation​​

We'll begin with a brief phone call to see if the project feels like a good fit. From there, we’ll schedule an on-site meeting to walk the property, discuss your goals, style, budget, and overall vision for the landscape. Inspirational images from Pinterest (or old family photo albums) are always welcome to spawn discussion. We may send a very brief questionnaire to gather your personal plant and style preferences early on.

Design Proposal

After our meeting, we’ll prepare a written proposal outlining the scope of work, potential improvements, design process, and estimated fees. Once discussed and approved, we begin developing the design.​​​

Site Measurements

We need an accurate base map to thoughtfully design around the property's existing conditions. Depending on the project, we may use an existing survey, recommend a professional site survey or scan, or measure the space by hand. ​​

Concept Design and Planting Design

Once we understand your goals, have inventoried the land, and have an accurate base to work from, we can begin creating.

We’ll start with a higher-level conceptual layout plan drawing showing how the landscape could be organized, used, and experienced. Alongside this, we’ll develop a visual presentation illustrating proposed design concepts, inspiration from gardens, art, and nature, and a palette of specific plants we’re considering. Our goal is to help you clearly imagine how the finished landscape could look, feel, flow, and function.

Presenting our ideas over Zoom (or in person) allows us to get your honest reaction to the proposed array of new colors, textures, forms, and feels. You can blurt out what needs changing or adding. You can also sit with our designs and let them marinate for a while. This is the time for revisions, additions, further explorations, and refinement etc. By the end of this phase, the vision for your new landscape should feel clear and exciting.

Master Plan Drawings

For smaller jobs, we may not need masterplan drawings. In some cases, a list of proposed materials and a planting plan may suffice for bidding and execution. But if required, or for full master-plan projects we'll usually create more refined final landscape drawings: design details, construction materials, final planting designs, Vegetation Management Plans, etc.

Contractor Bidding

Once a final plan is agreed upon, our drawings and notes can be sent to contractors for bidding on your installation. We'll recommend trusted local contractors, help gather bids, and assist in comparing pricing. If needed, we can also help adjust materials or project priorities to align with budget goals.

Installation Coordination

During construction, we stay involved to answer client and contractor questions. We generally coordinate plant sourcing and come back to site to manage plant delivery and layout. We'll help ensure the finished landscape reflects the original design vision. We can also help bring in post-installation maintenance gardeners/teams and bring them up to speed on new plantings.
